Muhammad Younus Life History

Mohammad Yunus


Muhammad Younus was born in 1940 in Chittagong. The business centre of Eastern Bangladesh. He was the third dof 14 children. Educated in Chittagong, he was awarded a full bright scholarship and he received his Ph. D from Vanderbilt University, in U.S.A. In 1972 he became head of the Economics department at Chittagong University. He is the founder and Managing Director of the Grameen Bank. In 1997, Professor Younus organised the world's first Micro Credit Summit in Washington D.C. Professor Younus Ali in an economist. He planned to alleviate poverty from the world. he introduced micro credit system among a limited number of poor people and his plan worked. Then he set up a bank., Grameen Bank. Through this bank he worked for the poor people and gave financial support to make them self employed. His programmes   succeeded and thousands of poor, powerless people could escape from poverty. They trusted Younus as helping hand and he was trusted to be a famous name. His micro-credit brought wealth to the underprivileged of many nations.
